APC Spotlight on Jim Burns and Willie Beamin

The Atlanta Poker Club would like to recognize the past two APC season champions as they get ready to test their skills in Tunica, MS next month. Jim Burns and Willie Beamin both won seats to play in a $550.00 WSOP or WPT event by winning the APC Season 11 and 10 championships respectively. Here is a quick interview with them and we wish them the best of luck at becoming the first Atlanta Poker Club members to win a professional tournament.

Atlanta Poker Club Grand Championship - Season 11

Every season, the Atlanta Poker Club officially ends with the grand championship. This is made up of people who have accumulated enough points or have met the other qualifications required to play.

Season 11 Grand Champion

Jim Burns

This season we had 127 people qualify for the tournament and the 85 players that showed up to play were all after the title and the coveted silver rectangular card protector that is synonymus with being the grand champion.

The Grand Championship was held at Downriggers in Winder. They set up a buffett and kept food and drinks coming for all the players. Thank you for being such great hosts.

The Atlanta Poker Club’s own Kelly Hannon was the TD for the day, and did a remarkable job. Her TD experience ensured a well run tourney and that a good time could be had by all. Thank you Kelly! I also want to thank all the dealers ( Bill, Clint, Getty, Jennifer, Nathan, Travis and Troy ) who helped out as well. Because of you the players can really concentrate and enjoy their game.

The play was pretty good all around and the top 5 at the final table consisted of some great players from the APC. Dion Knudston, Daniel Petty, Bruce Yates and Jeremiah Harwell. But in the end Jim Burns, was the last man standing. He showed he had the cards and the patience to survive the tough crowd on this day.

Thanks to all the dealers, the waitstaff, and the players. Everbody coming together like this is what The Atlanta Poker Club is all about.

1st Annual Atlanta Poker Club Toys for Tots Fundraiser

The First Annual Atlanta Poker Club Toys for Tots Fundraiser was a rousing success with over 500 toys donated to children who otherwise would have no Christmas.

Atlanta Poker Club Toys for Tots

If you were there to see all the toys, one would have thought that there were weeks and weeks of planning to put it all together. Well that was far from the truth. Joe and Linda put their idea into motion in about three days. Jason Spry gave his blessing and volunteers were quickly recruited. Linda took over and wrote up schedules, bought receipt books and made TD kits for every venue. Then the drive began, and APC’ers with the biggest hearts possible donated toys and money.

The Atlanta Poker Club is a place where people come together nightly to enjoy themselves. It is a place where anyone who enjoys poker is welcome and it is not based on how rich or poor anyone is. Some people with average or less than average incomes still donated with smiles for the children.

If you didn’t attend The Jury Box in person, we have photos for you, compliments of Maci Celli. The Marines arrived without a band playing, without uniforms and the poker play stopped. Players put toys in bags and rolled out bicycles and we loaded the truck by forming an assembly line and then the truck was off on it’s journey to the soon to be smiling faces of the needy children.

Thank you to everyone who gave, even if it wasn’t easy. And thank you for the large donations from the ones that could.

Even if you are alone on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, you can think of the child who has a gift because of you and you can smile. Thank You !  You can view more photos on the Atlanta Poker Club photo album.

The Atlanta Poker Club Toys for Tots Promotion

LindaT4TJeffreysT4T

All this week, the Atlanta Poker Club has been hosting a unique Toys for Tots promotion.

Atlanta Poker Club

Toys for Tots

Thanks to all the work by Linda and Joe Deslattes and all the other ” Santas elves ” we have been able to raise a lot of money and toys for this great cause. The response from the APC has been incredible and we wanted to say thank you.

At the tournament Tuesday night at Jeffreys in Suwannee, we had one player donate $300.00! And we have had others step up and donate $100.00 and $200.00 . As of Saturday morning, the combined money/toy combination has been valued at over $5500.00 ! And we still have one more night to go.

Thank you to the members of the Atlanta Poker Club and everyone who has helped by either taking the donations or donating to the cause, your generosity will ensure that many less fortunate children will have a happy Christmas this year.

The Toys for Tots promotion will run through this Saturday December 15th at Downriggers in Winder. You are all also invited to The Jury Box in Lawrenceville on Sunday, December 16th at 1:00 p.m., as we turn all the gifts over to the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots represenitives. It will be a great thing to watch and we hope you can make it out and show your support and pride. You can read more about this and how each venue has raised in the Atlanta Poker Club Toys for Tots fundraiser section on the Atlanta Poker Club Forum.

Season 11 AllStar Champion Jason Spry

The Atlanta Poker Club would like to congratulate Jason Spry on being the APC Season 11 AllStar Champion.

Atlanta Poker Club AllStar Champion Jason Spry

Jason Spry - Season 11 AllStar ChampJason is one of the co-founders of the APC and has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help make the Atlanta Poker Club one of the premier poker clubs in the country.

Jason started this Atlanta area poker league because of his love of poker and he, like many of the rest of us, has improved his game immensely over the past four years.

Jason works hard to keep the company going, meaning he doesn’t get the chance to play live freeroll poker with us as much as he would like to. Somehow, Jason still manages to find time to play with us every week in the APC online poker league, and he has really become a force to be reckoned with! Because of his improvement, Jason was also able to take down the coveted APC points championship this season in the APC online tournament.

The staff and members of The Atlanta Poker Club would like to congratulate Jason on this accomplishment and also to say, “Thank You” for all your hard work.

Well, it was another night of fun and poker at another one of APC’s finest venues, Shakers in Lawrenceville. The evening was made special as everyone was celebrating the birthday of Shakers very own TD Travis Hart. And from the looks of the pictures taken by Maci ( thank you ), I think everyone had a great time. Also going on was another installment of the heads up challenge by our very own Jason Spry. This time he had two of the best players the APC has to offer being John Furg and Randy Smith. But Spry managed to walk away 2-0 for the night. If you have not yet made it out to this venue then you are missing out. Check out our poker forum for more info. on this and all the APC’s other venues as well as the calendar for the days and times we play. Hope to see you at the tables.
