JR like so many others became interested in this game of Texas Hold’em after watching the infamous Moneymaker WSOP tournament. After experimenting with playing on some online sites he found an advertisement for a charity event while enjoying dinner at Chillis one Friday evening. After playing his first APC tourney at the St. Jude charity event, he has been playing poker in the APC ever since. He now is a regular dealer (since season 11) and his biggest poker accomplishment to date was placing 20th in a 1000 man tourney in Tunica in 2008. The money was good, but the coolest thing was getting an official WSOP player profile online.
Favorite Poker Pro? Daniel Negreanu – what hasn’t already been said, he just has incredible reads and appears in every poker show on TV – Mr. Consistency. Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari – When playing together, there just isn’t much more entertaining TV (other than the Phil Hellmuth blowups on High Stakes Poker – but for a different reason)
Who has influenced your play the most? Without a doubt the following authors: Harrington, Skolansky, Brunson, Greenstein – as for APC, Daniel Petty ranks right up there…
What else do you want to accomplish with the APC? More wins! Which in turn qualify for All-Stars, then of course any major tourney win would be awesome!
Any advice to new members joining the APC? Be a student of the game (get some books and talk to people who have been around a while about strategy, situations, etc.), and yes it’s free poker, but we do take it pretty darn seriously so hopefully they have the consideration to do the same – but not too seriously that you lose the enjoyment factor of meeting and being friends with some of the coolest people I know!
