$500 Monthly Tournament – May Wrap-Up

The $500 Monthly Tournaments have a separate leaderboard. This leaderboard keeps track of the points for one month and the top 60 points earners are eligible to play in a tournament with prizes including $500, entry into the Grand Championship at the end of the season, and entry into the Yearly Championship that combines three seasons. The winner is automatically an All Star!

$500 May Monthly TournamentThe May Monthly took place on June 12th at the unique Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in John’s Creek. Thirty-seven players came out to vie for the Monthly Winner title. The competition was strong as these are players who have amassed the most points in that month out of over 1,378 players having points on the complete leaderboard. Takes more than luck to be in the top 60 for the month! Takes consistent finishes at every tournament played. As the tournament started, the heaven’s opened up and a deluge descended on the players not safely inside!

After several hours it was heads-up between Frank Nicklas and Ken Murphy. The final all-in hands were:
Frank – J, 3 – both hearts
Ken – Pocket Kings

Final outcome:

Players have one year to qualify and one of the prizes is a $1,500 seat in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The event took place on May 15th and 102 players competed for the trophy and the title.

Hours into this tournament it was heads-up between Allen Shepard and Brian “Bruiser” Baughcum. Brian had Allen outchipped at this point about 4 to 1. They traded several pots, then the momentum shifted to Allen and he began to build his chip stack.

Final hand, Allen shoves with 4, 4. Brian thought for several moments before making the call with J, 8

You can also qualify at the end of the season, when the Venue Championships are playing.
These are the top 10 players in points at that specific venue playing against each other to win the Venue Championship. If there are multiple nights, then you may play against 20, or 30, or 40 other players for the title. These Venue Championships take place the first week of the new season, and points earned go toward the new season.

There is plenty of time and multiple ways to earn your way into the Grand Championship. Win a Grand Championship as Kerm King did for Winter Season ‘10, and win a place in the APC Hall of Fame! Good luck!
